20 Verses to Overcome Anxiety

Anxiety is something we all deal with at some point. Maybe it’s worrying about the future, stressing over what’s next, or just feeling the weight of everyday life – it can get really overwhelming. Anxiety often centers around three key areas of life: our health, our finances, and our relationships.

When I had our twins in 2023, I had Postpartum Depression and I greatly struggled with intrusive thoughts that had me spiraling. I printed out verses and taped them in the bathroom so that every time I went to the bathroom, I would be reminded of God’s truth.

The Bible actually has a lot to say about that. It doesn’t brush off our anxious thoughts; instead, it meets them with real hope, truth, and reminders that God is with us through it all. My hope is that you will read through the following verses and find some truths that apply directly to your current situation and that you would meditate day and night (Psalm 1:2) on these verses.

Here are 20 verses to have faith over fear:

  1. Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
  2. Philippians 4:6-7: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  3. 1 Peter 5:6-7: Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
  4. 2 Timothy 1:7: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
  5. Psalm 55:22: Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
  6. Hebrews 13:6: So we can confidently say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?
  7. Joshua 1:9: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
  8. Matthew 6:34: Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
  9. Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
  10. Psalm 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
  11. Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
  12. Deuteronomy 3:22 Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you.
  13. Luke 12:22-26 Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.  Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.  Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
  14. Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  15. Matthew 14:27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. Don’t be afraid, he said. Take courage. I am here!
  16. John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world!
  17. Romans 15:13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
  18. Deuteronomy 31:8 Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.
  19. Exodus 14:14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.
  20. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Anxiety is a real part of life—but so is God’s peace. The Bible reminds us that God is present in our worries, powerful in our weakness, and faithful to bring calm in our storms. If you’re struggling with anxiety today, let these truths anchor your heart: You are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone.
