How to Make $100/Week on OfferUp

We all deal with clutter in our homes, it is a part of life (unless you are hardcore minimalist!). Think about it, if there are 52 weeks in a year and every week you go shopping, that is at least 52 items a year you are bringing home. We all accumulate too much stuff and it can be really hard to get rid of items that are still in great condition. What if I told you that you could get paid to declutter your home? This is how I like to think of it any time I sell something on OfferUp. Whether or not I am getting my asking price for an item, I am getting paid for someone to come to my home and take an item I no longer need.

If you’re looking for a simple way to bring in an extra $100 a week, OfferUp can be a surprisingly easy place to start. Whether you’re decluttering your home, saving for a specific goal, or just want a little more breathing room in your budget, selling on OfferUp doesn’t require special skills or upfront costs. In this post, I’ll break down exactly how I’ve used OfferUp to make consistent side cash, without it taking over your life.

Setting Up Your OfferUp Account

Before you start selling, you’ll need to create an account. Here’s a quick guide:

  1. Download the app on your phone.

  2. Create a profile with a friendly photo and clear username. Buyers respond better to sellers they can trust.

  3. Add your location so you can connect with local buyers.

Once your account is set up, it’s time to start listing items.

What Items Should I List?

Short answer: everything! Have you heard the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”? My thought process is, just try to see if an item sells. You never know what people are in the market for. One time I sold metal lids for mason jars for $5 because I wanted lids that wouldn’t rust over time, so I bought these leak proof mason jar lids. I didn’t need the metal lids anymore, so I listed them on OfferUp. List evergreen items on OfferUp, meaning items that won’t go out of style, and that are always in high demand.

What Are High Demand Items?

High-demand items are products that sell quickly because a lot of people are looking for them. On OfferUp, these are usually things that are practical, popular, or hard to find at a low price elsewhere. Electronics like AirPods, gaming consoles, and Keurig coffee makers often sell fast, as do gently used furniture, trendy kids’ toys, and branded clothing. Seasonal items, like winter coats or holiday decorations, can also be in high demand at the right time of year. Focusing on high-demand items helps you make sales faster and brings in more consistent cash each week.

Baby Items:

  • Pack n Play
  • Baby swing
  • Baby carrier
  • High-chairs
  • Stroller
  • Lounger

Outdoor items:

  • Grill
  • Plants
  • Patio furniture
  • Bicycles
  • Beach chairs

Household items:

  • Furniture
  • Night stand
  • Desk
  • Lamps

Kitchen items

  • Coffee maker
  • Air fryer
  • Instant Pot
  • Blenders
  • Food Processors

How Should I Price My Items?

A good rule of thumb is to price items slightly higher than your asking price because often people will negotiate for a lower price. For example, let’s say at your work Christmas party you won this Keurig Coffee Maker (but you already have a coffee maker, if you want at least $40 for it, I would list it at $50. If someone asks “will you take $40?” then you can confidently say “yes!”. They feel like they are getting a deal, and you make your asking price.

It does take some strategy, because if it is a highly sought after item, you won’t have to worry about the pricing. But if you just want the item gone and it might be a slower moving item, you might have to lower the price. Unfortunately, there are items out there that have a high price, but its resale value is low. For example, trendy holiday-themed home décor or limited-edition Starbucks mugs might sell for $50-$100 new, but you might only be able to get $10–$15.

How to Make $100/Week on OfferUp?

The week of January 12-16, I made $90. I got my full asking price for every item. I could have priced each item a little higher, but honestly I am up to my eyes in baby and toddler stuff (we have 3 kids under 3!) and I just needed it gone.

This is what I sold:

  • Pack n play - $40
  • Activity center - $20 (I actually got this for free)
  • Bumbo - $15
  • Baby carrier - $15

To make $100/week, it depends on a few factors:

  • What items you are selling
  • How much you are selling them for
  • How many items you sell in a week

Aim to sell about 5 good-quality items in the $20–$30 range, that will be easier than selling 1 $100 item a week (unless you have higher end items, go for it!). You can certainly make more than $100 a week on OfferUp, but I chose $100 as an attainable goal for most people. Selling on OfferUp shouldn’t feel like a chore, it’s meant to be an easy, low-stress way to boost your income. If you scale it up, you could even earn around $400 a week!

Tips for Selling on OfferUp

Use Keywords in Your Post

Use easily searchable words in the title. If you are selling a ZDTM brand wagon, instead of the title being “ZDTM 2 Seater Wagon”, name it “Wagon Stroller for Babies and Toddlers”. Remember, people will most likely find your products from the search bar. Think about what words you would type if you were looking to buy the item yourself, and include those in your title and description. Using clear, specific keywords helps your listing appear in more searches and reach the right buyers faster.

Take Good Quality Pictures (2-4)

Whatever you are selling, take 2-4 good quality pictures. There should be good lighting and the product and its features should be easily seen. Take shots from multiple angles, and include close-ups of any important details or minor flaws. A clean, uncluttered background will make your item stand out and give buyers confidence that it’s in good condition. Clear photos often lead to faster sales and fewer questions from buyers.

Reply to All Messages

The frustrating part about OfferUp is that you’ll deal with a lot of flakes, it just comes with selling on resale sites. Don’t get discouraged if some messages don’t turn into sales. In fact, the more messages you receive, the better it is for the OfferUp algorithm, as it signals that your item is gaining traction. Soon, you’ll find that even just one or two serious inquiries can be enough to sell an item quickly.

Turn Clutter into Cash

Selling on OfferUp is a simple, low-stress way to turn clutter into cash. By focusing on high-demand items, taking clear photos, using searchable keywords, and pricing strategically, you can easily make $100 a week—or even more if you scale up. Start small, stay consistent, and watch how quickly your extra income adds up. Grab a few items from around your home today, list them on OfferUp, and take that first step toward making extra money this week!
